I think, for the most part, that this is a case of wrong choice of media/wrong production team to get the message out in any way that isn't sensationalist or translated to the unidirectionally biased views of the authors.
With me, it's less an issue of whether they get our message out, and more an issue of audience and intent. I'd have more sympathy towards someone writing a book whose primary purpose was to inform than a production team whose purpose is to entertain. And I guess that's the clinching point for me, before I even consider their affiliates and methods of doing business.
I continue to be curious about why they chose to contact the otherkin community explicitly with carefully-worded emails meant to not scare us away. And that's the most disingenuous part that sets off all of my alarm bells; the disconnect between production studio and method of approach indicates a cognizance of the pitch and the script that's less than fair to the subjects under scrutiny.
So, I'm mostly interested in informing their rep that otherkin are, for the most part, quietly boring, so this idea gets swept off the table. My ulterior motive is to get them talking directly to the community, so their success or failure at understanding us can be discussed on the merits of their production, instead of on FUD based on a vacuum of information. Mostly, because I'm curious why they're still at this after a year's hiatus.
