The Mathematician's Tarot

... is something I simply want to exist.

I'm thinking of the standard imagery and card flow from Rider-Waite (with a few toss-ins), but with mathematical formulae instead of other subjects or people. I see this in my mind's eye rendered anywhere from beautifully to terrifyingly, in austere plain text, with the selected equation, font-face, positioning, flow, text color, and facing-side chroma giving each card its implied mood, imagery, and character. The card stock would be something cheap and unpretentious, as close as possible to Bicycle glossy rounded-edge without actually being so. The back would simply display an integral symbol, with a light blue fringe drawing the eye, cool tone towards flat black-on-white, into the center.

Am I crazy for wanting this? I would certainly buy it. This might be the kind of thing that would make a good weekend project, in any event.

When matching up mathematical formulae to appropriate Tarot cards, could refer to Hulse's Key of it All occult reference encyclopedias on gematria and multicultural numerology. I've got both volumes, if you want to leaf through them sometime.

A sufficiently geeky tarot otherwise though remains just as interesting.

Admittedly though I know squat about the things outside apparent personalities they relate to via Persona, so what use I'd have for a deck I don't know.

Perhaps you could start with a simpler deck and try a few readings before moving to something nerdy and complex? We'd be happy to help you learn and get you your first deck (considered good practice for a few reasons), if you'd like.

What is defined as a simpler deck, just the major arcana? Help would be cool anyway I suppose. But not sure the use. :T

I was just curious if you had any interest in performing your own tarot readings for the fun of it. I suppose at worst, it's a neat curio for you to leaf through now and then?

In any event, I meant starting with a Rider-Waite deck and building from there, were you interested. It's a fairly good starting point before jumping to more elaborate decks.

This may be something you or someone else will have to explain to me in depth somewhere, sometime. I wasn't aware you got more elaborate decks than ...*wikis* ...Rider-Waite actually.
